What is a forest plot? A forest plot is a figure, frequently used in meta-analyses, which displays the results from similar individual studies stacked on top of one another with the overall summary measures at the bottom. Below is an example of a forest plot created using RevMan 5. Forest plot is taken from Bradburn, et al. 2018.

The RevMan 5.3 interface When a review is open in RevMan, you will see there are three separate window panes that interact with each other as you navigate through the different sections of a review. I would like to create a forest plot using ggplot2. The goal is to create a forest plot with 6 rows named X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, and X6. Labels for these should appear on the left hand side. A vertical dashed line should appear at x=1. Furthermore, on the right hand side of the plot the values of the mean followed by 95% CI should appear at each row. RevMan is said to be the easiest method since at least it has a graphical user inferface (GUI). For total beginners, before even doing the Forest Plot, we need to learn how to enter the data into RevMan. The Forest plot also provides the summary data entered for each study. In addition, it provides the weight for each study; the effect measure, method and the model used to perform the meta-analysis; the confidence intervals used; the effect estimate from each study, the overall effect estimate, and the statistical significance of the analysis. A forest plot does a great job in illustrating the first two of these (heterogeneity and the pooled result). However, it cannot display potential publication bias to readers. A funnel plot can do that instead.
You can do this using the Generic Invariance Function in any of the major meta- analytic packages. Review Manager (RevMan is free from the Cochrane

How to enter data. 2016-02-16 Ok, so now that we understand the axes of the forest plot, let’s put some values on. Each horizontal line put onto a forest plot represents a separate study being analysed.
I will send the further details in messages.

A forest plot presents a series of central values and their confidence intervals in a graphic manner, so that they can easily be compared. The central values are represented by markers and the confidence intervals by horizontal lines.
Enter the data into a Column table. Keep the default choice to enter the "replicates" into columns.

The forest plot in Revman offers few options for customization. By contrast, CMA allows the user full control over all elements in the forest plot, will create scalable plots (that print at the highest resolution possible for the printer or journal), and allows the user to control the color for every element on the plot.
•Each study is represented by a black square and a horizontal line (CI:95%).
